Sunchocola tomato,  Adam cucumber (gherkin) and bush baby zucchini

July 30 'R' Garden

end of July and 'R' garden is taking off .....

Papageno usually has much more colour ......

such a lovely kale - too pretty to eat!!

and more Creme Silence

beans looking somewhat bedraggled, but providing

overview

love these marigolds

bean harvest .... a lot of these are from Matilda pole bean ...... so much easier to pick that the bush beans ..... may just grow pole beans next year now that I have a stable trellis

July 29 Back Garden

finally ..... a nice handful of Sunchocola from my back 40 container garden

hollyhocks

gladiola providing a bit of colour - but they don't last long - unlike dahlias, which are just starting to take off - Creme Silence - not my favourite, but it is early and prolific

waiting for my Dazzling Sun ...... one of my favourite dahlias

Atomic Fusion (a larger version of Brad's Atomic Grape), not quite ripe .... but the Sunchocola are ready to go

mildew starting to show on the zucchini ....

July 27/29 Beds 10/11 and 64

a few more update pics of the gas station garden

15th and Vine trying to take over Bed 10

mystery dahlias to the right trying hard to share Bed 11

this is Lilly 7 a RL indeterminate tomato -   I quite like the plant shape, foliage and it is also producing small hearts ...

thought I'd pop in a few pole beans to make use of the trellis ..... Matilda is a lovely green beans that is providing lots of beans at 'R' garden - hopefully these will provide beans for the fall

and a pic of Bed 64 on July 29 ...... these Lilly F2s plants are really loading up with tomatoes

July 25 Container Tomatoes

Overview ...... weather forecast calling for a week long heat dome ...... just crazy for the Pacific Northwest

thought the tomatoes and peppers would appreciate a little food as they will be getting lots of water in this heat

Schultz is an all purpose plant food 10-15-10 and I love Thrive Alive B-1 Green - a natural based seaweed tonic - getting hard to find and rather expensive but worth the price in my opinion

July 24 Change of Pace

lucky dogs ....... this is the entrance to the beach dog park at Vanier Park ........

July 23 Garlic Harvest

thought I'd check out one garlic and ended up digging them all .......

elephant garlic - lovely size this year

and a mix of Georgian Fire and Northern Quebec Porcelain ... a few smaller sizes, but I'm happy with the harvest;  however this is the first year my home garden garlic has shown rust ..... I read one should cut off the leaves to prevent contamination to the bulb ..... time will tell how well these cure;  currently resting in a cool dark storage shed

elephant garlic is immune to rust so no need to cut off green leaves - these will be left to dry off naturally
elephant garlic babies attached to large bulb

the flowers are from the elephant garlic - I use these as a dried display over the winter - although they do have somewhat of a garlic scent for a few months ... the smaller unopened scapes usually provide bulbils when dried
