May 27 'R' Garden

Just a quick check in at 'R' garden .....

happy to see the transplanted Matilda pole beans have already started to twine

bush beans are sprouting ....... these are Masai

chard never fails to amaze with its colours

dahlias, glads and marigolds looking happy

don't usually have much luck with tomatoes in this garden, but had two extra Brad's Atomic Grape .... they seem good so far ....

May 27 Beds 10/11 and 64

Bed 11:  tomato are greening up, can't decide if all the self-seeded nasturtiums will stay, although they add a spicy kick to salads; I also had two very shrivelled dahlia tubers with sprouted eyes I just had to squeeze in

this warm wet weather has brought on Bed 10 in full force ..... I just read that apart from salad additions the scarlet frills mustard is good stir-fired, so hopefully more will get used;  I have been using this bed as a cut and come again

happy to see the Lilly tomatoes settling in Bed 64; some of the earlier sown lettuce has also decided to make an appearance

another wee harvest - my radishes just didn't happen this spring ....

May 27 Tomato Blossoms

The first three tomatoes in blossom, two of which come from Karen O:

Sunchocola F1

Sweet Baby Jade

Taiga - this one is a mega-bloom!!

May 23 Beds 10/11 and 64

Last of the Lilly F2 tomatoes has found a home - this is Lilly 12 in Bed 11

a wee harvest - although most of the radishes had wireworm damage

explosive growth in Bed 10 - Oregon Giant snow peas and Sugar Ann snap peas should be flowering soon, while the Scarlet Frills mustard has taken over ......

Bed 64 tomatoes slowly starting to green up

May 20 Back Forty Update

Tomatoes are starting to look a bit happier. ....... Lilly 10 PL dwarf at far right

managed to squeeze in three more tomatoes plants in between the dahlias ... two Dwarf Firebird Sweet and Lilly 1

May 18 'R' Garden

overview - four different bush beans were sown in short rows today:  one I call Van Dusen - received from a friend a number of years ago - older seed, so hopefully a few will germinate, also Masai - a favourite the last few years, Speedy and Serpedor (wax Romano)

yellow chard - this was the original colour of saved seed
and this wonderful orange variation ...... hoping for seed

well, at least one kale found a home - these plants get really big, so not really room for more; I think this one might be Dazzling Blue

a few slug munches, but Santee is looking OK

yes!  Dahlias have started to sprout along with the gladiolas ..... I unfortunately forgot to label the varieties, so will have to wait until flower time to id

Whoa rhubarb

May 17 Back Garden

my kale transplants are ready for their forever homes ...... but still not quite sure where that will be; snap peas are starting to flower

fuchsias looking a little tired of this weather, but Lilly, chrysanthemum and hosta making good progress

these container tomatoes are more protected than those planted at the gas station garden, but hoping for our warm spell in May soon!!

May 17 Beds 10/11 and 64

Bed 64 tomatoes have not had the best weather ...... they are not happy campers; the Alderman peas however seem to have settled in
